Lead wastes, such as lead foils used in the wrapping that shields x-ray film, are highly toxic especially after lead exposure has accumulated in the body over time and are considered hazardous waste unless they are recycled for their scrap metal content. Anything that contains lead must be disposed of in specifically designated containers for proper recycling and cannot be disposed as municipal solid waste (trash).
